Corporate Licensing Activity - Fourth Quarter 1991
The following changes have occurred to insurers' licenses during the quarter ended December 31, 1991.
New Insurers:
- Canadian Trinity Life Insurance Company was licensed on December 6, 1991, to write accident and sickness and life classes of insurance subject to the following condition: The company shall not undertake insurance contracts in Ontario prior to January 1, 1992. Amalgamations:
- Adriatic Insurance Company of Canada amalgamated with Canadian Home Assurance Company with retroactive effect to January 1, 1991. The continuing entity will carry on business as Canadian Home Assurance Company. Accordingly, the license in the name of Adriatic Insurance Company of Canada has been cancelled.
- UNUM Life Insurance Company amalgamated with UNUM Life Insurance Company of America, effective December 31, 1991. The continuing entity will carry on business as UNUM Life Insurance Company of America. Accordingly, the license in the name of UNUM Life Insurance Company has been cancelled.
Discontinuing & Withdrawing Insurers:
Electrical Worker's Benefit Association transferred its policy liabilities to Electrical Workers' Pension Benefit Fund, effective December 31, 1991. Electrical Worker's Benefit Association's license has been cancelled.
- Federated Mutual Insurance Company's policy liabilities have been assumed by Federated Insurance Company of Canada, effective August 31, 1991. Federated Mutual Insurance Company's license has been cancelled.
- First National Insurance Company of America's license has been amended to reflect a discontinuing status, effective October 10, 1991.
- General Insurance Company of America's licence has been amended to reflect a discontinuing status, effective October 10, 1991.
- Norman Insurance Company Limited's license has been amended to reflect a discontinuing status, effective December 17, 1991.
- North American Reinsurance Corporation's policy liabilities have been assumed by Canadian Reinsurance Company, effective November 29, 1991. North American Reinsurance Corporation's licence has been cancelled.
- Safeco Insurance Company of America's licence has been amended to reflect a discontinuing status, effective October 10, 1991.
- The Scottish Dominion Insurance Company Limited's licence has been amended to reflect a discontinuing status, effective November 12, 1991.
- Sun Alliance And London Assurance Company Limited's policy liabilities have been assumed by Sun Alliance And London Assurance Company (Canada), effective December 31, 1991. Sun Alliance And London Assurance Company Limited's licence has been cancelled.
- Underwriters National Assurance Company's policy liabilities have been assumed by Life Investors Insurance Company of America, effective November 29, 1991. Underwriters National Assurance Company's licence has been cancelled.
- UNI Storebrand International Insurance A/S's, (formerly, Storebrand International Insurance A/S) licence has been amended to reflect a discontinuing status, effective November 27, 1991.
Changes to Licences:
- Anglo Canada General Insurance Company's licence has been amended to add the accident & sickness class of insurance, effective December 19, 1991.
- Bankers Life And Casualty Company's licence has been amended to allow the company to insure policyholders in Canada where group policies have been issued to the same policyholders or affiliated companies in the United States, effective December 13, 1991.
- The Continental Insurance Company's licence has been amended to delete the accident & sickness class of insurance, effective October 8, 1991.
- The Dominion Insurance Corporation's licence has been amended to delete the accident & sickness class of insurance, effective October 8, 1991.
- Kent & Essex Mutual Insurance Company's licence has been amended to include the unrestricted automobile class of insurance, effective December 17, 1991.
- Life Investors Insurance Company of America's licence has been amended to accept a portfolio transfer of liabilities from Underwriters National Assurance Company and reads as follows: limited to the writing of group contracts and to the acquiring and servicing of policies issued in Canada by Underwriters National Assurance Company, effective November 29, 1991.
- Mitsui Marine and Fire Insurance Company, Limited's licence has been amended to add the marine class of insurance, effective November 27, 1991.
- Ontario School Boards' Insurance Exchange's licence has been amended to include the unrestricted automobile class of insurance, effective December 12, 1991.
- Pafco International Insurance Company's licence has been amended to reflect its new corporate name, Granite Insurance Company, effective November 25, 1991.
- Storebrand International Insurance A/S's licence has been amended to reflect its new corporate name, UNI Storebrand International Insurance A/S, effective November 27, 1991.
- The Tokio Marine And Fire Insurance Company, Limited's licence has been amended to delete the accident & sickness class of insurance, effective October 7, 1991.
- Transamerica Insurance Company's licence has been amended to add the accident & sickness class of insurance, effective December 17, 1991.
- Zurich Insurance Company's licence has been amended to delete the accident & sickness class of insurance and to add their french name, <<ZURICH>> Compagnie D'Assurances, effective October 17, 1991.
