Life, Supplementary Health and Dental Insurance Risk Assessment Questionnaire

Improving Financial Education Effectiveness Through Behavioural Economics, written by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) reports that when it comes to financial literacy, consumers have a number of biases that may prevent them from making financial decisions that are best for them. Some of the biases include:

  • they are present focused, meaning they tend to focus on their present situation and neglect the future;
  • they are influenced by their peers and less so by their families; and
  • they are overly optimistic and do not think challenging life circumstances will ever affect them.

As a result, the OECD recommended that financial literacy programs need to do more than push information out to these groups, but rather the solution is to “address the fact that consumers require tools to help them act in a way that improves their financial well-being. This type of education does not need to focus specifically and solely on knowledge or information, but on new skills, self-awareness and techniques for self-improvement”.

As a result, FSCO has developed a self assessment questionnaire that will enable consumers to question some preconceived notions in order to make the best financial decision for themselves.
